Privacy Policy

PDFree is a PDF editor that runs entirely in your web browser. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it. The short version: your documents never leave your device.

Your documents

Every PDF you open, edit, or save with PDFree is processed by JavaScript running in your own browser. Your files are never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's. We have no copy of your documents, no access to their contents, and no way to recover them for you.

You do not have to take that on trust. The editor page sends your browser a security policy (a Content-Security-Policy header) that only allows it to connect to pdfree.pro and the two library sites listed below. Your browser enforces it: a request carrying your document anywhere else would be refused. To see it, open the editor, open your browser's developer tools, select the editor request on the Network tab, and read the Content-Security-Policy response header.

Data stored on your device

• Theme preference: your light/dark theme choice is kept in your browser's localStorage.
• Working document: when you open a PDF, it's stored in your browser's IndexedDB so the editor page can load it and you can continue with it later. Opening another file replaces it, and "Remove from this device" on the start screen deletes it.
• Annotation autosave: your in-progress annotations are saved to IndexedDB every few seconds so they can be restored if you close the tab.

All of this stays on your device. You can wipe it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.

Third-party resources

PDFree loads open-source libraries from public content delivery networks: cdnjs.cloudflare.com (PDF rendering) and cdn.jsdelivr.net (PDF writing and, if you use OCR, the text-recognition engine and its language model). When your browser fetches those files, the CDN sees your IP address and browser details, as with any web request, under their own privacy policies. None of your document content is included in those requests.

Advertising

PDFree is free and supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or read how Google uses this data in Google's advertising policies. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt before personalized ads are served.

Analytics

This site runs Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless. It stores nothing on your device and gives you no identifier that follows you between visits or between sites. Each page view sends a random id that exists only for that single page load and is never linked to another.

Each page view reports the address of the page, how long it took to load and render, the browser engine and version you are using, your operating system version, and how much memory the page is using. It does not report the page you came from, because this site asks browsers not to send one. Your IP address reaches Cloudflare the same way it reaches any site you visit, as part of the request itself.

It reports nothing about a document you open. Your file is read and edited inside your browser and is never sent anywhere, so there is nothing about it for analytics to see. The file name, its contents, and the edits you make are all invisible to this measurement.

The measurement runs on every page here, the editor included. It is added by Cloudflare when the site is served rather than by a script written into these pages, which is why you will not find it in the page source on disk.

What we never do

• No accounts, and no collection of names, emails, or personal information.
• No uploading, scanning, or retention of your documents.
• No selling of data. We have nothing to sell.
