Privacy Policy

PDFree is a PDF editor that runs entirely in your web browser. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it. The short version: your documents never leave your device.

Your documents

Every PDF you open, edit, or save with PDFree is processed by JavaScript running in your own browser. Your files are never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's. We have no copy of your documents, no access to their contents, and no way to recover them for you.

Data stored on your device

• Theme preference: your Paper/Zen choice is kept in your browser's localStorage.
• Working document: when you open a PDF, it's stored in your browser's IndexedDB so the editor page can load it.
• Annotation autosave: your in-progress annotations are saved to IndexedDB every few seconds so they can be restored if you close the tab.

All of this stays on your device. You can wipe it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.

Third-party resources

PDFree loads open-source libraries from public content delivery networks: cdnjs.cloudflare.com (PDF rendering), cdn.jsdelivr.net (PDF writing and, if you use OCR, the text-recognition engine), and tessdata.projectnaptha.com (the OCR language model). When your browser fetches those files, the CDN sees your IP address and browser details, as with any web request, under their own privacy policies. None of your document content is included in those requests.

Advertising

PDFree is free and supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or read how Google uses this data in Google's advertising policies. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt before personalized ads are served.

Analytics

We do not currently run any analytics. If that changes, we intend to use a privacy-friendly, cookieless option and will say so here.

What we never do

• No accounts, and no collection of names, emails, or personal information.
• No uploading, scanning, or retention of your documents.
• No selling of data. We have nothing to sell.
